I heard a pastor say in a couple of his sermons the the United States is under God’s judgment for her sin. I suspect that it may actually be the Church under judgment for the very reasons you mentioned.

Pray for my Dad. He said the same thing. "They have been saying this for years". Preacher told him one time " if you don't have a Bible, you don't need to be here". My dad stood to leave but my Granddad held him back. He hasn't been back since.

Dave ,Jesus is still alive, Jesus himself asked father why did you forsake me. God doesn't abandon anyone or anything. We are all God's children God is spirit in all of us Jesus never died his spirit is all around you. And it is infinite and that is the reality that cures dilutions of not being able to comprehend what you understand in scripture death in scripture is not physical but in spirit. Scripture tells me to worship Jesus teachings sent from God. Jesus was teaching how to live Christians teaching how to die.
